Shubman Gill: Camp with Yuvraj Singh was very useful | Cricket News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Be it his front-foot game against Nathan Lyon on debut in Melbourne or the way he took apart Mitchell Starc at the Gabba, the fearless approach of Shubman Gill has impressed everyone.
Back home after helping the team to a series win in Australia, the opener said on Friday: “I am relaxed now. Making my debut for India is a big relief. I was a bit nervous, but with every innings I grew in confidence.”
In six outings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Gill never looked uncomfortable. His sublime 91 in the fourth innings set the tone for India’s historic victory on the final day.

The 21-year-old agreed with his father Lakhwinder Gill’s view on missing out on a hundred.
“A century could have been the cherry on the cake. I was well set and I should have scored the century, but at the same time, I am happy that I have contributed to the team’s victory. This series was a big learning curve for me and I have become a better cricketer,” Gill said.
“The next goal is to score consistently at this level. England series will be crucial for me because now I will not be an unknown entity. Facing the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer will be challenging, but I am up for it.”

Gill also acknowledged Yuvraj Singh’s contribution for his success in Australia. The former India player became a throwdown expert for the youngster during a 21-day off-season stint before the IPL.
“The camp with Yuvi paaji before the IPL was very useful. During that camp, he prepared me to face chin music. He used to throw hundreds of short-pitch balls to me from different angles, and I think it helped me a lot,” said Shubman.

The youngster, who has come home after six months, wants to spend quality time with his family. But he doesn’t have much time as he is supposed to join the Indian team in Chennai next week for the upcoming Test series against England.
“I was craving for homemade food. For the next couple of days, I just want to be home and eat my favourite dishes,” he said.
