#HowIMadeIt! Anjali Barot: The number of times I was rejected is not funny – Times of India

While Pratik Gandhi has become an overnight star post his stint in Hansal Mehta‘s ‘Scam 1992‘, his onscreen better-half, played by Anjali Barot, has grabbed her share of attention too. But it hasn’t been easy sailing for her. “I went through a series of auditions. The number of times I was rejected is not funny. Every time I asked for a reason behind the rejection I was told someone hotter, younger, or older, had been cast in my place. I couldn’t understand where I would fit,” relays the actress who found her break with the series.

Ask her how has life changed for her and pat comes the reply, “I am being approached with a lot of projects now, and will you believe it if I told you that despite wearing a saree and a mask, I got recognised when I stepped out?”

I faced several rejections

While she is enjoying the highs of her newfound success and popularity, Anjali is sure that she will never be a part of steamy scenes or indulge in skin show on web shows. Won’t that limit her? “I don’t mind using certain words if the character absolutely demands it but I am surely not going to do steamy scenes,” she asserts.

I will use certain words if I am convinced that they are there for a reason

The actress goes on to reveal that she had also rejected a kiss that was part of Scam 1992. “We were asked to kiss but I went up and informed the makers about my reservations. They understood and when asked how should they show a moment of affection, suggested a hug instead. Some of the shows that I had turned down for its bold content went on to become hits but I have no regrets,” states Anjali.

I said NO to a kiss in ‘Scam 1992’

Anjali, who has been a part of the web series ‘Wrong Number’ and some TV shows in the past, says that she had decided to give herself a year to evaluate if she would be able to make it in showbiz. “But one show became two, and two became five, and here we are. Full marks to my parents who never put up any resistance when I had told them that I was leaving a salaried job in a production house to pursue a career in acting.” Money is still not a priority for Anjali. “I will not turn down work that offers me a lesser remuneration than my standard or expectation. I look for creative satisfaction more than anything else,” she concludes.
