#Goodbye2020: Divya Dutta: I am looking forward to being on sets without any apprehensions and meeting people without PPE kits – Times of India

The ever so busy actress Divya Dutta spent most of her time this year at home, bonding with her family and loved ones during the pandemic. Although she made the most of her free time, the actress just cannot wait to get back on set.

In an exclusive interview with ETimes, Divya opened up about the lessons she has learnt in the pandemic, things she is looking forward to in the New Year, and more. Excerpts…

Describe 2020 in one sentence.
2020 was a year of learning and realizations.

If 2020 was an emoticon, which one would it be?
I think if it was an emoticon it would be of shock and disbelief because this we have seen in movies and all these Sci-fi movies and you’re seeing it happen in front of you right now, so yes disbelief.

If you had to say something to this year, what would it be?
Dear 2020, you made us realise all the mistakes and blunders that we have made. You have made us realise the importance of simplicity, and value little things in life. You have shown us a journey within and I hope we have learnt our lesson. In any case, I request you not to come again in any form.

Favourite film of 2020
My favourite film of 2020 would be ‘Ram Singh Charlie’.

What is your highest and lowest moment of 2020?
My highest moment was the quality time that I got with my loved ones. I got to spend time with them without worrying about deadlines. My lowest moment was, of course, to just see what was happening around – the pandemic spreading, people losing their jobs, and not being able to meet each other, all these really got me low. So yes, this lockdown has been somewhere high and somewhere very low.

Favourite song of 2020
My favourite song of 2020 is ‘Ooo Bea Ji… Kismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram Kabhi Garam’ from the film ‘Ludo’. It is an old song that Anurag Basu has used. It was picturised on Bhagwaan Dada originally and has been used beautifully in the film. The lyrics are so true, relatable, and very peppy!

Favourite OTT show of 2020
My favourite OTT show of 2020 would be ‘Special Ops’. Fortunately, I’ve been a part of it as well. I think it was sleek, thrilling, grand and it was my debut in OTT. Apart from that, I think I have liked ‘Bandish Bandits’ as well. I also loved ‘Pataal Lok’ very much. I have liked ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ and ‘The Crown’ too.

One food you tried for the first time this year.
Since this lockdown has taught us some healthy habits, I tried eating jau rotis which I have never done in my life. And it was the first time that I had them and they were pretty healthy and yummy. And the good thing is I can also make them myself, even though they are not very round but yes, I can make them.

What did you learn in 2020?
What I learned in 2020 was that I can be best friends with myself and I now feel very complete in my own company. Earlier, I used to run to meet everyone and feel very low if I was alone but now the feeling has sort of reversed. I really enjoy my company and now it takes a lot of effort for me to just go out and meet everyone.

Also, I realised that we can beautifully live on basics. We don’t really need to do all that we’ve been doing,
ye bhi chahiye, wo bhi chahiye. I think most of us passed the entire lockdown wearing just three pairs of shorts and a t-shirt. I think it took me back to my childhood days, back to how our grandparents used to live. I think life has become a little simpler for me. I’m happy with that.

Were there any plans that 2020 ruined for you?
Of course! It’s the famous adage, ‘If you want God to love, tell him your plans’. I had lots of films I was supposed to be shooting for. I was supposed to go on a cruise and travel with my family and it all got ruined. All said, I think this year taught us to cherish what we have and not take anything for granted.

What did you miss the most in 2020?
I missed a big tight hug from my friends and loved ones. I missed going and meeting them in person. I realised the power of touch in 2020 and I really missed it.

What are you looking forward to in 2021?
I am very hopeful about 2021. I am looking forward to normalcy, at least by mid-year. I am looking forward to being on sets without any tension, apprehension and worry and meeting people the way we used to meet without those huge PPE kits they come with. I just hope 2021 is not a Sci-fi movie anymore and we go back to our normal lives. I also hope that the vaccine works on everyone and things get better. I hope employment opportunities come back.

One film you are looking forward to watching in 2021?
I am looking forward to watching Kabir Khan’s ‘83′ . I’m very excited for the film.

If Genie grants you three wishes – what would you ask for?
Firstly, I would want the pandemic to just disappear. Secondly, I want people to get back their work and be into their normal lives again. Lastly, I want to be on the sets again and be able to find an awesome partner for myself.

One thing that you will miss about 2020.
2020 made me know everyone in my building by their names, made friends with them because there was nowhere out to go. And the whole building has become like a huge family. The time we spent in each other’s houses, cooking and doing things together was awesome. We never got to do all this despite living together for so many years. I hope we continue the bond we have made. I am going to miss all this.
