‘Spider-Man 3’: Charlie Cox to make MCU debut as Daredevil in upcoming Tom Holland starrer – Times of India

Christmas has come early for Daredevil fans as the latest reports claim, Charlie Cox will cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Matt Murdock.

The star, who played the blind lawyer from Hell’s kitchen in a hugely successful series on an OTT platform, is now reportedly set to make his film debut as the famed character in ‘Spider-Man 3’. Charlie’s casting as Daredevil has earned him a strong fan-following and was recently in the news when a social media campaign #SaveDaredevil went viral with fans asking web platforms to create more episodes of the crime-fighting superhero series.

Prior to cox, actor Ben Affleck took on the role of Daredevil in the self-titled 2003 film that also saw Jennifer Garner as Electra and Collin Farrel as Bullseye.

The Tom Holland-lead ‘Spider-Man 3’ is all set to bring actors from previous editions of the superhero blockbuster and open up a Spider-Verse with stars like Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Kirsten Dunst, who are expected to reprise their roles.

According to reports, the upcoming adventurous flick is expected to feature multiple generations of ‘Spider-Man’ actors all in one frame, along with the villains like Electro, Vulture, Doctor Octopus, and a few others.

It has also been reported that the upcoming film will also see Benedict Cumberbatch crossing over as Doctor Strange.

Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Jacob Batalon will be seen reprising their roles from the first two Holland-led ‘Spider-Man’ films.

Holland’s first solo outing as Spidey was in 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. The actor’s stag ventures were huge financial successes, with the first generating more than $880 million globally and the second exceeding the $1 billion milestones. This made the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise rank as the highest-grossing film of all time.

The makers have reportedly set their sights on December 17, 2021, for the film’s release.

Before Holland stepped into the red and blue suit, Maguire portrayed Spider-Man from 2001-2007 under Sam Raimi’s directorial comic book trilogy. Garfield then assumed the suit for a separate stint in 2012’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and the 2014 sequel, both directed by Marc Webb. Holland’s character is the only version to appear in the Disney-owned MCU.
